University District Park PlanThe University District, officially designated as University District Northwest in Seattles Comprehensive Plan, is an emerging urban center expected to experience high residential and employment growth during the next 20 years. Bordering on the University of Washington (UW) and encompassing several small residential areas, an active business district, and Safecos corporate campus, the University District has a unique and diverse set of park, open space, and recreational needs. While the community features a few excellent parks and the nearby UW includes attractive passive open space, the University Districts 2.86 acres of open space falls 2.97 acres below the Comprehensive Plans open space goals. The projected increases of 2,000 new households and 2,640 jobs by 2024 mean that this deficit will grow to 5.27 acres unless additional parks and open space can be provided. Working with local stakeholders in two work sessions, priorities have been identified for various types of new park facilities. » University District Park Plan (PDF 2.5M) *Note: To view a PDF, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader.
