August 2008

In 2006, we took many great steps toward restoration and improvement of the ravine, with completion of the Vegetation Management Plan, several terrific volunteer work parties, contracted restoration work and loop trail construction, as well as a connecting trail feasibility study and subsequent decision (and funding) to build a connecting trail through the ravine at 38th Ave SW.

Please enjoy the progress photos below.

The Pro Parks Levy provides funding for restoration work and a lower loop trail access to the ravine. Please follow this link Vegetation Management Plan for a copy of the Vegetation Management Plan guiding this work.

38th Ave SW Connecting Trail - What's next?
Over the next few months, Parks will be working with the consultant to complete trail design and permitting work. As permits allow, the trail construction will be bid in spring, to be constructed in summer 2007; or if more time is required for permitting, construction could be in 2008. We look forward to moving ahead with this work!

Seattle Parks and Recreation hosted a public meeting August 21, 2006 to discuss the Draft Pedestrian Trail Connection Feasibility Study (PDF 4.6M)with the community.

Undertaking this consultant study was a result of the public process for the Orchard Street Ravine improvement project, a 2000 Pro Parks Levy funded project.

The Superintendent has reviewed the study and public comment, and discussed the report with the Parks Board.
