Sand Point Blue Ribbon Committee, and a vision for the future of the park.

RECREATION & LEISURE PROJECTS
North Shore Recreation Area Plan
In 2001, the North Shore Recreation Area Master Plan was developed. The North Shore is located in the northwestern part of the park, north of the NOAA access road and west of the NOAA campus. The Magnuson Park Concept Plan (1999) designated this area for non-motorized boating.

The Mountaineers Headquarters
In 2008, The Mountaineers completed renovations to this former navy motor pool garage. This is the first of several long-term partnerships which transform historic district buildings.

SPORTS PROJECTS
Sports Fields
Sports facilities have always been found on the Sand Point peninsula.
The Sports Fields (located to the southwest of the children's playground)
were used during the Navy era - a period of some 50 years. Sailors did
calisthenics, marched, and even played baseball and football. Starting
in the late 1950s, a football field was even lighted during the fall season. » more
Sand Point Tennis Center

In 2008, the City Council authorized a concession agreement with Seattle Court Sports Unlimited (SCSU) for constructing and operating the Sand Point Tennis Center. This center will include 6 indoor courts, 4 outdoor courts and a clubhouse.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS
Promontory Point Habitat Enhancement Projects
In 1999 the Magnuson Environmental Stewardship Alliance (MESA) and
the Seattle Audubon Society began the rehabilitation of Promontory Point
with northwest native plants, shrubs and trees.

Vegetation Management Plan
This plan was completed in 2001 and is considered a working document to guide management of existing landscapes.

Drainage, Wetland/Habitat Complex and Sports Fields and Courts Project
This project began in earnest in 2001 with preparation of an environmental impact statement. Construction was completed in mid-2009 and both the wetlands and sports fields are providing new opportunities for recreation at Magnuson Park.

Magnuson Outdoor Learning Lab
Hands-on science, outdoor investigation, and service learning: it's all part of the Burke Museum’s involvement with the Magnuson Outdoor Learning Lab (MOLL). In partnership with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department, EarthCorps, and Seattle Public Schools, the Burke Museum is taking the lead, coordinating an innovative field science and restoration program for middle school students at Magnuson Park.
