PROJECT STATUSThank you Seattle! Thank you to all who supported this project and celebrated with us on September 24, 25, 2010 for the grand opening dedication. The Lake Union Park reclaims the shoreline and green spaces on Lake Union and fulfills the Olmsted vision of a magnificent waterfront park at the south end of Lake Union. The park features a model boat pond, restored shoreline habitat and native plants, beach for hand-launched boats, 300-foot long interactive fountain, sculpted landforms for children's play, tree grove with tables and Benches, waterfront boardwalk, terraced steps at the lake edge, history trail spread throughout the park. The History Trail, designed by Lehrman Cameron Studio, is a series of interpretive monuments, signs, exhibits, and an informational kiosk that tells the story of how Seattle’s urban cityscape meets the water – both in the past and present.
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe first phase of this construction project is part of a long-term redevelopment effort to create a park which provides indoor and outdoor spaces for large community gatherings as well as waterfront access for workers and residents of the neighborhood. The park development will support expansion of Maritime Heritage elements, which preserve and display boat/water related history of the region. The park houses the Center for Wooden Boats and other maritime-related organizations such as Northwest Seaport and Virginia V Foundation. The design team of Hargreaves Associates (San Francisco, CA) and Mithun Architects (Seattle, WA) is leading the design process to take the park master plan through the design process and into construction.
