  • Planting along the street? Review the minimum planting strip width requirements before selecting your tree.
  • Under power lines? Select one of the power line approved trees that reaches a maximum height of 25 feet.

The power line approved trees are the most popular species we offer. Please apply for power line approved trees only if you are planting under power lines.

Grand fir  (Abies grandis)

Native to the Pacific Northwest lowlands, the grand fir is truly grand. The glossy green foliage has a citrusy scent when crushed. This native conifer's narrow habit and rounded top makes it a beautiful yard tree when given room to grow. It makes a great home for wildlife.

This native conifer's strong pyramidal form and gray-red fibrous bark are an appreciated site throughout Pacific Northwest gardens. This tree has beautiful evergreen foliage in flat sprays that hang from horizontal stems. Plant it in a moist site for it to flourish.

Skylands Oriental spruce (Picea orientalis 'Skylands')

You can't help but notice the golden glow of this tree in the landscape. The needles emerge a vivid yellow that softens to gold as the season progresses. The dense, pyramidal form and golden foliage would work in endless plant combinations in the landscape.

A unique tree with a horizontal branching structure. Flat topped clusters of small creamy white flowers in June yield blue-black fruit clusters in the fall. Dark green leaves turn to a brilliant range of orange through burgundy in the fall.

This broadly pyramidal tree has a strong central leader and a more open habit than other European hornbeams. Its excellent heat tolerance means it will maintain healthy green leaves through summer before they turn a rich gold in the fall.

American beech (Fagus grandifolia)

This stately tree has an upright oval to round shape that can provide significant shade at maturity. Be sure to give it lots of room. The toothed green leaves of summer turn a golden bronze in the fall which is when the edible beechnuts ripen. The smooth gray elephantine trunk is quite attractive in winter.

White oak (Quercus alba)

A large deciduous tree with a wide-spreading, rounded canopy at maturity. The leaves, with their finger like lobes, are a green to slightly blue-green color that then ranges from bronze to shades of red in the fall. White oak is native to the eastern US and makes an excellent shade tree, street tree, or yard tree.

This magnolia relative is a fast-growing deciduous tree that has distinctively shaped leaves and subtle but lovely, pale yellow flowers in late spring to early summer. It tends to grow tall and loves full sun. The foliage turns golden yellow in fall.

A small, tough, and urban tolerant tree that will impress with its peeling coppery-bronze bark and fragrant white flowers in Summer. As the new leaves are emerging, they have a silvery appearance due to silky hairs.

Known for its beautiful fringed white spring blooms, the tree's handsome bark also provides winter interest. The leathery green leaves turn yellow in the fall. Quite uncommon in Seattle, it will make a lovely street tree under power lines or yard tree in a small space.

City Sprite zelkova

This compact tree is a dwarf version of the regular zelkova with brighter green foliage. It produces a uniform and full crown. A great tree for small spaces. The fall color is orange to yellow.
