Morgan Junction Park Addition

Summer 2019

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Morgan Junction Festival and provided essential input for developing the new open space at 6311 California Ave SW adjacent to Morgan Junction Park. Your input from the first on-line survey and open house was used to develop three concept designs which were presented at the June 22nd festival. The survey closes Monday, July 22, 2019.

On March 1, 2019, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) planning staff met with the Morgan Community Association (MOCA) at the site. Both SPR and MOCA are excited about this park expansion project. Soil sampling and analysis is being contracted now in preparation for site remediation. We are also evaluating and costing out the street improvements that will be associated with expansion of the park. We are planning to have two more community meetings to finalize park design.

SPR purchased this .28-acre in 2014 to provide the community access to open space within this high density urban area. The Seattle Park District funds the development of this parcel into a park addition. Seattle Parks and Recreation will work with the community to develop the design for the park. Please participate in the public process as we work together to design your park spaces.

Planning for this project is beginning and the first public meeting and open house happened on June 16, 2018 at the Morgan Junction Festival. Thank you to everyone who attended and offered ideas for the development of the lot right next to Morgan Junction Park.

Project Description

In 2014, Seattle Parks and Recreation purchased the .28-acre property at 6311 California Ave SW, north of Morgan Junction Park, to expand the park and provide additional open space for this high-density neighborhood. The design will incorporate accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and additional park elements will be incorporated after gathering public input. We anticipate construction and completion by the end of 2020.

The addition parcel will not be accessible during construction.
