Federal Relations

The Federal Liaison handles day-to-day management of the City's federal priorities with the Washington state congressional delegation, other members of the House and Senate, and the Administration. OIR oversees the City's contract lobbyists in Washington, D.C. to ensure the City's' positions and priorities are communicated to key elected and appointed officials.

Current federal issues of key concern to the City include Alaskan Way Viaduct and Seawall Replacement Project funding, annual appropriations requests, Discovery Park Navy housing, homeland security funding, and retaining local taxing authorities.

The City of Seattle engages with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the National League of Cities, other big cities around the country, and other national associations to lobby Congress and the Administration on issues of mutual concern. Mayor Nickels is a member of the US Conference of Mayor's Executive Committee where he serves as a Trustee of the organization and is also a member of the Transportation and Communications Committee.
