Federal Relations

The Federal Relations Director handles day-to-day management of the City's federal priorities with Washington state’s Senators and Representatives, other members of the House and Senate, and the Administration. OIR oversees the City's consultants in Washington, D.C. to ensure the City's' positions and priorities are communicated to key elected and appointed officials.

Current federal issues of concern to the City include the Elliott Bay Seawall Replacement Project; funding for a host of programs including the Community Development Block Grant program, homelessness programs, homeland security , and justice programs;  supporting a metropolitan/city focused federal transportation reauthorization; and protecting local taxing authorities.

The City of Seattle engages with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the National League of Cities, other big cities around the country, and other national associations to lobby Congress and the Administration on issues of mutual concern.
