Video Submission Criteria and Guidelines

How to Enter

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is inviting the City of Seattle youth to show their creativity by participating in a video challenge. Tell us how you think Seattle should travel safely through graphics, drawings, words, and/or pictures all wrapped up in a video… It's up to you!

All participants must be current students at a Seattle High School.

Judging Criteria

Creativity is the key to a good quality video and we would like to encourage out of the box thinking! Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges from the Seattle community.

All entries must be submitted and received April 30, 2019 by midnight PST.

By submitting a video, you promise the content:

  • Is your original creation
  • Has not been copied in whole or in part from any other work
  • Has never been previously publish or submitted to any other competition

Guidelines to follow

Entries will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Video Length: Minimum 30 seconds, Maximum 2 minutes
  • Limit 1 video submission per person/group
  • Each individual of a team much complete a Reel Grrls Liability Waiver
  • Creativity and originality of the depicted theme
  • Encourages safe travel by foot, bike and/or transit
    • If using a bike - use a helmet and proper safety gear
    • If driving - must be a licensed student or parent
  • Entries must be submitted as a .mp4 file
  • Please include/consider diversity in your video recordings
    • Age, Ability, Ethnicity, Gender, Race, etc

Entries including the following will not advance:

  • Contains profane or offensive language
  • Contains discriminatory images or content
  • Contains third party copyright, trademarks, content or other images controlled or controlled by a third party other than Entrant, unless sufficient permission has been granted to Entrant.
    • For exmples, "Made in Washington" or Nike's Logo Design

Selected finalists will:

  • Have their videos showcase online and used for future projects
  • Be invited to particiapte in a video release celebration where SDOT and Reel Grrls will highlight the filmmakers

  • How to safely use a crosswalk 
  • Distracted walking/driving
  • Rules of the road
  • Safety Tips
  • Topics that relate to Safe Routes to School and/or Vision Zero
