Project Description
The Freeway Park Entrance Improvements project will make pedestrian improvements at multiple entrances to Freeway Park, which bridges I-5 running from 9th Ave on First Hill to 6th Ave and the Washington State Convention Center downtown. This work will improve park accessibility and safety. This project was selected by the Levy to Move Seattle Oversight Committee in 2016 for funding through the Seattle Department of Transportation's (SDOT) Neighborhood Street Fund (NSF) program. The NSF program funds projects requested by the community.
Potential Project Elements
Through the Finding Freeway Park Community Design Process, you'll have a chance to give input on urban design elements that draw attention to park entrances, including:
- Improved connections from surrounding streets
- Decorative sidewalk treatment and other enhancements at park entrances
- New pedestrian light poles at or near entrances
- Improved wayfinding signage
- Specialty crosswalk markings

Project Funding
Funding comes from the 2015 voter-approved, 9-year Levy to Move Seattle, which will improve safety for all travelers, maintain streets and bridges, and invest in reliable, affordable travel options for a growing city. The levy includes $24 million to continue the Neighborhood Street Fund program over the nine years.
SDOT, in partnership with the Neighborhood Matching Fund and the Freeway Park Association, will develop the design elements for entrances to the Freeway Park. The Finding Freeway Park project will generate the ideas that the NSF project will implement.
