The City of Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Office of Equity and Economic Inclusion(OEEI), in partnership with Sound Transit & King County held the Connecting the DoTS (Part of the Working with SDOT Series) event on October 20, 2016 at the Bertha Knight Landes Room of Seattle City Hall.
The event featured information on commonalities between local transportation agencies - SDOT, Sound Transit, and King County as it pertains to information and processes that can be carried over between agencies to facilitate potential work opportunities in Construction/Public Works. Other topics included:
- Panel discussion on procurement, certification, contracting delivery, etc.
- Information on upcoming Public Works opportunities from SDOT, Sound Transit, and King County
- Information on State of Washington Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE) certification
- Information on Bonding/Insurance from the USDOT Northwest Small Business Transportation Resource Center
In addition to the program, the event featured an overview of resources and networking time with agency leadership & Project Managers, information on WMBE Inclusion, and advance notice of upcoming contracting opportunities.

The City of Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) Office of Equity and Economic Inclusion(OEEI) held the Working With SDOT: Ready to Prime event on June 29th 2016 at the Bertha Knight Landes Room of City of Seattle City Hall.
The event provided targeted information for both subconsultants interested shifting to a prime role with SDOT and existing prime consultants looking for additional information on key expectations and requirements for contracting with SDOT.
The program featured information on key similarities/differences between engaging on SDOT work as a subconsultant and a prime consultant as well as the different impacts and implications this may have. Experienced/existing primes were able to obtain the latest information on key expectations and requirements that may help for successful contracting with the department.
In addition to the program, the event featured an overview of resources and networking time with SDOT leadership, Project Managers, information on WMBE Inclusion, and advance notice of upcoming contracting opportunities.
Working With SDOT: Move Seattle
SDOT held its first Working with SDOT event for 2016.
The first event was held 3/29/2016 at Bertha Knight Landes and focused on Move Seattle Opportunities.
The event featured information on upcoming Move Seattle projects (Construction & Design) as well as networking opportunities with SDOT PMs, leadership staff, and other companies to include prospective prime contractors.
Upcoming project information has been loaded onto the "Upcoming Work Opportunities & Resources" Section.
SDOT Bilingual (English - Spanish) Workshop: Introduction to City of Seattle / SDOT March 3, 2016
Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) WMBE Program Manager - Edson I. Zavala, and City of Seattle FAS-CPCS Online Business Directory Manager - Julie Salinas, held a hands-on workshop in the SMT computer lab to connect small, minority owned, women-owned, mirco, start-up and or immigrant businesses with information on the procumbent process and potential areas of work.
The event featured step-by-step computer assistance for registration on the City of Seattle Online Business Directory and provided information and English / Spanish information for common questions such as:
- What are potential work opportunities?
- Where do you start?
- What are steps to get ready?
- Where can I receive assistance when I’m ready?

Working with SDOT 101 brought 41 Women- and Minority- Owned businesses to the Seattle Municipal Tower to learn about working with SDOT. Department representatives explained the types of services and goods SDOT procures, along with resources and tools for WMBE firms. The event also included networking opportunities among firms and dozen SDOT project managers and staff.

City of Seattle Business Opportunities Forum for Architecture and Engineering (Feb. 25, 2015)
The Opportunities Forum provided the architectural and engineering services (A/E) consultant community with information about upcoming opportunities to do business with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), Seattle City Light (SCL), and Seattle Department of Finance and Administration (FAS). Contract Managers presented information on a number of design, engineering services, and engineering support services projects.
