2022 Hiring Incentive

Lateral Hires:

The Seattle Police Department will pay lateral hires $25,000 in two equal installments. The first installment payable on the first regularly scheduled pay date after a hiring agreement is signed and the second installment payable after successful completion of the Employee's probationary period.

In exchange for the amounts received the Employee agrees to remain with the Seattle Police Department for a "Retention Term." This is a period of three years following the Employees' hire date.

If the Employee separates from employment with SPD for any reason during the "Retention Term," the Employee shall repay the pro-rated portion of any and all amounts received. The repayment obligation shall be calculated by dividing the number of weeks remaining in the "Retention Term" as of the separation date by the total number of weeks in the "Retention Term" and multiplying the resulting fraction by the total incentive amounts the Employee has received.

If the Employee voluntarily separates from employment with SPD prior to completion of Employee's probationary period, or if Employee does not successfully complete the probationary period, then in addition to any repayment obligation the Employee will not be entitled to the second installment of the hiring incentive. If a repayment obligation is triggered, SPD is hereby authorized to deduct from the Employee's final paycheck any amounts necessary to fulfill the repayment obligation, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
