Magnuson Park Building 18 Request for Proposal (RFP)
Update:
March 22, 2019 - Seattle Parks and Recreation enters contract negotiations to re-develop and restore historic Building 18 at Magnuson Park
Seattle Parks and Recreation has invited Outdoors for All to enter into contract negotiations for a long-term lease agreement to re-develop, restore and activate historic Building 18 at Magnuson Park. Building 18 is a 13,247-sqaure foot, two-story brick building that was constructed in 1936 and served as the former Naval Station firehouse. Outdoors for All was selected following the department's issuance of a Request for Proposal process in August 2018.
Outdoors for All, whose mission is "To enrich the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through outdoor recreation," plans to use the space to offer a wide variety of adaptive recreation programs, and will provide opportunities for public access and public benefits.
"We are excited to move forward with Outdoors for All on redeveloping one of the last remaining vacant buildings at Magnuson Park," said Christopher Williams, Seattle Parks and Recreation Interim Superintendent. "Outdoors for All provides opportunities for families and children with disabilities to connect to the natural world and is in keeping with the department's values of supporting healthy people, a healthy environment and strong communities."
"We are thrilled that the City shares our big vision for the building - we want it to be a showpiece for the transformative powers of adaptive recreation, and a launching pad for our program participants, volunteers, employees and anyone else," said Ed Bronsdon, executive director of Outdoors for All. "We look forward to reaching a lease agreement with the City so we can formally begin the renovation."
About Outdoors for All Foundation Outdoors for All has been enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities in Washington state since 1979. Today, more than 2,900 people with disabilities exercise their abilities annually thanks to the support of more than 800 volunteers. More information is available at www.OutdoorsforAll.org.
The City of Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation (SPR) is seeking proposals for the redevelopment and renovation of Building 18 located within Magnuson Park. Building 18 is an approximately 13,247-square foot, 2-story brick building. It was initially designed in 1935 and constructed in 1936 as a single-story building with a 4-bay garage, workshop and 2 bays for a fire truck and ambulance, totaling 5,274-square feet.
Through this Request for Proposal (RFP), SPR is seeking a proposer(s) which can make a significant capital investment in exchange for a long-term Agreement. Proposals should include the management and operation of recreation, arts and cultural, or environmental programming that will be open to the public. SPR does not have designated funding for this redevelopment. Therefore, proposals should also include a well-defined funding plan.
