New Electric Service and Improved Electrical Reliability Coming to Capitol Hill Neighborhood

SEATTLE Seattle City Light crews are working to install a new underground infrastructure project that will bring electrical service to a condominium and retail development at 301 East Pine Street on Capitol Hill. The construction site is on Melrose Avenue between East Pine and East Pike Street.

Crews started excavating and adding conduit Thursday on the west sidewalk of Melrose Avenue and trench across the street to the east sidewalk. Once civil construction is complete, crews will move the overhead electrical lines in the immediate area underground. The work will improve electric service reliability to customers, which is a key component of Seattle City Lights Strategic Plan.

The work is estimated to be completed in about three weeks. Project impacts will occur one section at a time. Among the impacts to expect are traffic lane restrictions, intermittent street closures during trenching, parking spaces being used by construction crews and some noise during the early days of work. All businesses will remain open during construction.
