2016 Candidates

Candidates who passed the 2015-16 testing process were added to the current 2016 Firefighter Register. The top 25% of candidates on the register proceed to the pre-employment process. The Department plans to hire a recruit class from this register to start August 8, 2018. Tentative pre-employment screening schedule:

March 2018: Employment packets were emailed to eligible candidates on 3/1/2018.

March 26 - 29, 2018: Exam sessions for candidates who have not completed pre-employment exams within the past 12 months. Note that March 26th was added to available dates.

April 2018: CPAT vouchers will be emailed to candidates who have not successfully completed a Seattle CPAT within the past 12 months.

April 2018: Pre-Employment Interviews for candidates who have not yet been interviewed.

May 2018: CPAT

June 2018: Medicals

July 2018: Orientation

August 8, 2018: Recruit Class 109 begins

Frequently Asked Questions

Four recruit classes have been hired from this current Firefighter register in August 2016, February 2017, August 2017, February 2018. We anticipate hiring a fifth class from this hiring list, to start August 8, 2018. The 2016 register will remain active until a new register is established.


Candidates within the top 25% of the register will receive a paid Seattle Fire Department CPAT Voucher. All candidates must complete a CPAT with a Seattle Fire Department voucher. Vouchers are valid only with National Testing Network.

No. You do not need to be EMT certified to apply or test for Seattle Firefighter.

You will need to have a current Washington state EMT certification or be eligible for certification sponsorship prior to the start of recruit school. Due to the length of our hiring process, candidates have time to meet the EMT requirement during the testing and pre-employment process. A limited number of candidates will be offered space in an EMT course during the pre-employment process.
