2016 Candidates

Candidates who passed the 2015-16 testing process were added to the current 2016 Firefighter Register. The top 25% of candidates on the register proceed to the pre-employment process. Below is a current pre-employment process schedule for eligible 2016 candidates. It is anticipated that the current 2016 Firefighter Register will be used to hire through August 2018.

September 2017: Pre-Employment screening begins

October 2017: CPAT

November 7, 2017: Conditional offer calls have been completed

February 7, 2018: Recruit class 108 begins

Frequently Asked Questions

Three recruit classes have been hired from this current Firefighter register, August 2016, February 2017, August 2017. Conditional offers have been made for the fourth recruit class which starts February 7, 2018. We anticipate that we will hire a fifth class from this hiring list, to start August 8, 2018.

The 2016 hiring list will remain active until a new hiring list is established. The next application period and testing process has not yet been scheduled.


Candidates within the top 25% of the register will receive a paid Seattle Fire Department CPAT Voucher. All candidates must complete a CPAT with a Seattle Fire Department voucher. Vouchers are valid only with National Testing Network.

No. You do not need to be EMT certified to apply or test for Seattle Firefighter.

You will need to have a current Washington state EMT certification or be eligible for certification sponsorship prior to the start of recruit school. Due to the length of our hiring process, candidates have time to meet the EMT requirement during the testing and pre-employment process. A limited number of candidates will be offered space in an EMT course during the pre-employment process.
