Emergency Child Care

In response to extended school closures due to COVID-19, the Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) has launched an Emergency Child Care program to support those working on the front lines of our City's COVID-19 response.

Invitation to register for the City of Seattle's Emergency Child Care program is open to the following persons living or working in Seattle:

  • First responders and essential workers in the healthcare, grocery, and pharmacy sectors

  • City essential personnel and employees of organizations doing priority level one work as defined by the Mayor's office or Essential Operations Management

  • Families experiencing homelessness

  • Other essential workers identified in Governor Inslee's Stay Home, Stay Healthy Order of March 24.

Working with our Seattle Preschool Program and Pathway program providers, DEEL currently has more than 270 seats available for children ages 3- to 12-years-old. These emergency child care sites are operating under new Public Health - Seattle & King County guidelines for childcare facilities operating during the COVID-19 crisis, which include guidelines for smaller group sizes, daily health screenings, and greater frequency of cleaning and sanitizing, among other health and safety measures.

If you are not in one of the eligible groups above or if you have a younger child or needs different from what DEEL can accommodate, including care outside of Seattle, please contact our partner, Child Care Resources, for alternative care options.
