University District Commercial Revitalization Plan

On January 31, 2013, the University District Livability Partnership released the Strategic Plan for Seattle's University District. This effort was funded through the Office of Economic Development (OED), as part of the Only In Seattle neighborhood business district revitalization initiative and is the result of more than a year of stakeholder participation and meetings. The Plan is part of a larger strategic four-year initiative that encourages investment in the University District The Partnership undertakes the following tasks:

1. University District Commercial Revitalization Planning will identify short- and long-term actions to promote a unique and vital commercial district that will adapt to change over time.

2. University District Urban Design Framework will recommend & review strategies to integrate new development and investments in the public realm for a vibrant, safe, walkable neighborhood.

3. New Partnerships: Demonstrate successful working relationships between community stakeholders-including both public and private partners-to plan for change now, and to work together for the betterment of the U District community over the coming years.

In 2013, this effort was awarded additional funds through Only in Seattle to continue this work focusing specifically on an organizational structure that can sustain this effort.
