West Seattle Junction Park

Review Status

On July 19, 2018, we reviewed the concept design phase for the project.  This was our second review of the project. At this meeting, we voted, 7-1, to approve the concept design for the West Seattle Junction Park. We will review the schematic design phase at a future date.

Project Description

The project is one of 14 landbanked sites acquired by Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) to provide additional open space in urban neighborhoods throughout the city.  The .4 acre site, which was purchased by SPR in 2012, is located at the mid-block of 40th Ave SW between SW Edmunds St. and SW Alaska St in the West Seattle Junction Neighborhood.  The proposed design includes several play elements, gathering spaces, natural planting areas, seating, lighting, universally accessible pathways.  The design includes ROW enhancements along 40th Ave SW that includes unique paving patterns, seating, street trees, and a pet relief zone along the sidewalk and street edge.

Attend a Meeting

We hold our meetings on the first and third Thursdays of every month in the Boards and Commissions Room, located on lower level 2 (L2) of Seattle City Hall at 600 4th Ave. Our meetings generally begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. Please click here to see the agenda of upcoming meetings. Make a Comment

When you attend a SDC meeting, we provide a time for members of the public to comment. We ask people to sign up when they attend a meeting - we use a sign in sheet to keep track of attendance and to see who wants to speak. We also use this sheet to send notice of future meetings on the project you came to follow. We generally limit comments to two minutes per person. When there are larger groups of people who want to speak on the same topic, we ask that the group appoint a spokesperson to speak for the group. We give groups up to five minutes for public comment. It is helpful to also submit your comment prior to the SDC meeting.  This will allow more time for the commission to consider your comment.  See below for more information.
