Abel has spent nearly ten years working, living, or going to school in NE Seattle and is proud to represent Northeast Seattle's District 4 as its appointed City Councilmember.

Abel got his degree in Political Science from California State University, Northridge before earning his Masters in Public Administration from Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy and Government at the University of Washington.

Professionally, Abel began his career in Seattle at the Seattle Foundation, working to develop placed-based strategies before joining the Seattle Police Foundation to work strategically with the Seattle Police Department's Community Outreach Team and the Office of the Chief to develop community partnerships. And for the last four years, Abel worked with the University of Washington’s Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, most recently serving as the Director of Strategic Engagement for the UW’s Washington MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) program to increase opportunities for students of color and young women in STEM.

Abel currently chairs the Planning, Land Use, and Zoning Committee, serves as vice chair of the Sustainability and Transportation Committee, and serves as a member of the Gender Equity, Safe Communities, New Americans, and Education Committee.
