Seattle Office for Civil Rights Proposes Amendments to Chapter 40 Administrative Rules
The Seattle Office for Civil Rights (SOCR) is proposing amendments to Chapter 40 Administrative Rules (Chapter 40). Chapter 40 provides guidance for enforcement of Seattle’s discrimination laws in employment, public places, housing, and contracting.
Examples of amendments include:
- Removes references to Office of Labor Standards;
- Adds the Fair Chance Housing Ordinance, Seattle Municipal Code 14.09;
- Adds confidentiality of the identity of minors;
- Changes the statute of limitations, per Seattle City Council, Council Bill 119240;
- Changes the damage amount for violations of the law;
- Changes access to public records;
- Changes to acceptance of electronic signatures.
Timeline
SOCR is holding a public comment meeting two days after the proposed amendments are posted so people have a chance to receive an overview and ask questions early in the process:
- Tuesday, November 13: Draft of proposed amendments to Chapter 40 are posted and the public comment period begins.
- Thursday, November 15: Meeting is held for the public to hear about the proposed amendments, ask questions, and provide comments.
