Notice of Seattle Municipal Court Judicial Vacancy

As a result of Judge Ed McKenna's retirement, there is a vacant judicial position in the City of Seattle Municipal Court. Qualifications for the position of judge in Washington State may be found in Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 35.20.150 and in Seattle Municipal Code (SMC) 3.33.110.

Applications are being accepted to fill the unexpired judicial term, which ends December 31, 2022.

The Judicial Evaluation Questionnaire is available here. Individuals who meet the qualifications and are interested in being considered for the judicial appointment shall submit their completed questionnaire and supplemental materials electronically to the Seattle City Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on August 31, 2020 at the following email address:

Individuals who have fully completed the judicial questionnaire and provided the requested materials will be considered. All candidates are strongly encouraged to submit judicial evaluations from the King County Bar Association and Minority Bar Associations.

A judicial merit selection committee will forward a recommendation to Mayor Jenny Durkan for her selection of an appointee, who will be subject to confirmation by City Council.
