West Lake Union Improvement Project Construction Update Week of September 30 - October 11
Location/Work: Crews will continue storm mainline work at the southend of the project. This work includes the installation of large pipe so please be aware of large equipment maneuvering throughout the site. Crews will be located between the 1200 and 1800 blocks of Westlake Avenue North. Parking will be lost in these areas until the completion of the work. Please be aware of NO Parking signage.
Lane Closure/Traffic: One southbound traffic lane on Westlake Avenue North between South Lake Union and the Fremont Bridge will continue to be closed for approximately nine months during construction. During the storm mainline work, there will be a lane shift heading north between the 1700 and 2400 block of Westlake Avenue North. There will be work crews on both sides of the road. Please use extreme caution. Note: Please be aware of speed limits within the construction zones, and signage that may reflect current conditions of the construction area. When driving or walking, please be aware of work crews and equipment along Westlake Avenue North during construction.
Other Work in the Area: King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks and the City of Seattle are constructing a project to control combined sewer overflows (CSOs) into Lake Union and Elliott Bay. CSOs are discharges of combined sanitary sewage and stormwater that are released into water bodies during storms. As part of this project, new wastewater conveyance facilities will be built near the intersection of Valley Street and Terry Avenue North. This project is expected to last approximately six to nine months. For more information on the Denny Way/Lake Union CSO Control Project please contact Yvonne Kraus at 206-269-0229 or visit the website at http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wtd/dennyway.
Some General Impacts: Limited and sometimes no parking in the specific areas under construction; periodic limited access; lane closures and traffic flaggers on Westlake Avenue North; noise from large construction vehicles; increase in dust and mud during construction.
During construction, impacts to the surrounding community and thru traffic are to be expected. The City of Seattle requests patience and cooperation from travelers and residents. City departments will work with the community in efforts to minimize impacts and disturbances.
NOTE: 24 hours notice is the city requirement for notification of no parking areas. Although we will do our best to notify owners of parked vehicles, if you work or live in the area, please pay attention to the NO PARKING signs so that your vehicle is not ticketed or towed.
Please note that Construction for the West Lake Union Improvement project is expected to last approximately 12 months. Due to the nature of construction, schedules are likely to change. City departments will keep the community informed of the most current schedule.
