West Lake Union Improvement Project Construction Update Two Week Outlook
Location/Work: Crews will continue the grading and paving phase of the parking lot on Westlake Avenue North in two sections. Work will be done between blocks 2500-2700, and blocks 2100-2400. Beginning the week of September 16, crews will begin the asphalt and striping phase of construction in these areas.
The Joint Trench phase of the project will continue to move south down the east lane of Westlake Avenue North. This project is expected to reach the intersection at Highland by the end of the week of the 16 of September. This construction will close the entry from Westlake into the city parking lot at the intersection, and access to the private parking lot for the AGC building will be gained by entering at the 1000 block entrance to the south of Highland. Signage installed will direct traffic, as well as additional flagging staff on site to help insure entry and egress.
Please be advised that large equipment will be moving throughout the site at various times. Please be aware of NO Parking signage.
Note: Please be aware of work crews and equipment along Westlake Avenue North.
Lane Closure/Traffic: One southbound traffic lane on Westlake Avenue North between South Lake Union and the Fremont Bridge will continue to be closed for approximately nine months during construction. Please be aware of speed limits within the construction zones, and signage that may reflect current conditions of the construction area.
Some General Impacts: Limited and sometimes no parking in the specific areas under construction; periodic limited access; lane closures and traffic flaggers on Westlake Avenue North; noise from large construction vehicles; increase in dust and mud during construction.
During construction, impacts to the surrounding community and thru traffic are to be expected. The City of Seattle requests patience and cooperation from travelers and residents. City departments will work with the community in efforts to minimize impacts and disturbances.
NOTE: 24 hours notice is the city requirement for notification of no parking areas. Although we will do our best to notify owners of parked vehicles, if you work or live in the area, please pay attention to the NO PARKING signs so that your vehicle is not ticketed or towed.
Please note that Construction for the West Lake Union Improvement project is expected to last approximately 12 months. Due to the nature of construction, schedules are likely to change. City departments will keep the community informed of the most current schedule.
