Eligibility
Q: I don't live in Seattle and I don't work in Seattle. What parts of the program am I eligible for?
A: We're sorry, you must live in Seattle to be eligible for the One Less Car Challenge.

Donating a vehicle
Q: For level 2, can I donate my vehicle instead of selling it?
A: Yes. What you need to do is reduce the number of cars you own so that you have more drivers than cars in your household. We also require proof that you have sold or donated your vehicle.

Q: Where can I donate my vehicle?
A: There are many organizations that accept vehicle donations. Donating a vehicle may have tax advantages depending on your particular situation. The City does not specifically endorse any particular organization for vehicle donations. However, based on the organizations to which other One Less Car Challenge participants have donated a vehicle, we can provide the following list:

Flexcar and car-sharing
Q: What is Car-sharing? What is Flexcar?
A: Car-sharing is essentially car rental by the hour. What is unique about car-sharing is that the cars are parked in reserved locations throughout the community, so there should be one convenient to your home, near your work or on your busline. Flexcar is a private company that provides car-sharing services in the Seattle region. Flexcar members simply reserve the Flexcar they want via telephone or via the web, use the car and return it before their reservation expires, so it’s ready for the next user. Unlike car rental there’s no paperwork for each Flexcar trip. You simply receive a bill at the end of the month for all your Flexcar usage, similar to a phone bill.

Flexcar is an important part of the One Less Car Challenge because sometimes you need a car. If you don't drive your car very often, Flexcar is a much more cost-effective and convenient way to "have" a car.

For more info visit www.flexcar.com

Q: How do I sign up for Flexcar?
A: Visit www.flexcar.com and click on “Apply Now.” You will need a credit card for billing purposes and Flexcar will need to check your driving record to ensure that its members are good drivers. The fee to get started is only $35.

Miscellaneous
Q: Why do you ask questions about my driving, biking, busing, etc.? Do you really need that information?
A: Definitely. This is how we track the effectiveness of the program. We track how many car trips are saved as a result of the program. We have a goal of saving one million miles of car trips over the course of a few years.
