Give your car the summer off
Car Free Days 2008

We are identifying streets, or portions of streets that can be opened to the community for playing, walking and biking for a period of time known as Car Free Days throughout the summer. An example of where this is already done in Seattle is Lake Washington Boulevard south of Mount Baker Beach and around Seward Park. Known as Bicycle Saturdays and Sundays www.seattle.gov/parks/Athletics/bikesatsun.htm, various weekend days throughout the summer months are closed to motorized traffic from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Car Free Days are meant to advance climate protection by creating a cultural change with regard to the car. We hope to attract more people to bicycling and walking, support vibrant neighborhoods, local businesses and recreational areas around the city.

Check back. More information coming soon!

Drive 1,000 miles less this year and reduce your carbon footprint by 1,000 pounds of CO2.
