Past project updates

SPU is currently working on design for the project and has identified an initial concept for construction. Construction will begin in early-2016. Funding for this project is provided by drainage and wastewater rates.

SPU is committed to exploring construction methods that will minimize impacts to South Park businesses and residents, and we will be contacting all those potentially impacted to make sure they have the opportunity to share their concerns and inform our actions.

June 4, 2015

The design of the 14th & Concord Sewer Improvement project is 90% complete. Design of the new 24-inch bypass pipe continues to develop with details being identified and addressed as we progress. We are conducting outreach to residents and businesses within the project area and will continue to provide updates as the start of construction approaches. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2016 and will take approximately 6 months to complete.

A temporary art installation will be incorporated into the construction phase of the project. The project artist, Horatio Law, is engaging the community as he develops the proposed art piece. He is meeting with community organizations monthly and will present a further developed concept to the Public Art Advisory Committee in June 2015.

Additionally, SPU is developing a Sewer Backup Protection Program for property owners who will still be at risk of sewer backups due to sewer system capacity limitations after completion of the 14th & Concord Sewer Improvement. This program will offer qualified South Park property owners a free sewer backup protection device. SPU is still working out the details of how we will make the program available to your community, but our primary goal is to make this effort as simple and straightforward as possible. SPU will contact those who qualify with more information about the program as it becomes available later this year. If you have any questions about the Sewer Backup Protection Program, please contact Tasha Bassett at (206) 615-0550 or Tasha.Bassett@seattle.gov.

April 2015

In late April, geotechnical investigations and utility location will be conducted on 14th Avenue South as part of preliminary work on the project. While the main construction effort on the project is anticipated for early 2016, this work is needed to determine current conditions around the sewer alignment.
