Status in the Cedar

We recently completed three years of surveys (2005 through 2007) using both truck-mounted radar equipment and standard audio visual surveys. This study established four long-term monitoring stations and provided baseline murrelet numbers for comparison with future surveys. We verified a low level of murrelet use in two old-growth forest patches, with possible use of three other sites. These nesting birds likely fly daily to the Puget Sound, approximately 33 miles away.
