Plastic

You can recycle many types of plastic in Seattle. However, we don’t recycle “by the numbers” so use this list, rather than the numbers on your plastics, to know what you can recycle!


At your house or apartment

You can recycle:

You can NOT recycle:
  • • Bottles such as water, soft drink, shampoo and juice bottles- throw caps away
  • • Jugs such as milk, juice and laundry detergent jugs- throw caps away
  • • Jars- throw lids away
  • • Round dairy tubs, such as cottage cheese, yogurt and margarine tubs- throw lids away
  • • Plastic shopping bags. Clean, dry, and empty of receipts. Stuff into one bag and tie securely.
  • • Bubble wrap
  • • Flower pots
  • • Bags such as freezer, frozen food, produce, bread, garbage, and Ziploc type bags
  • • Packaging or wrapping
  • • Plastic caps or lids
  • • Plastic cups and utensils
  • • Plastic food tray
  • • Reading glasses
  • • 6-pack rings
  • • Styrofoam
  • • Take-out containers


At the Recycling and Disposal Stations

You can recycle for no charge:

You can NOT recycle:

  • • Bottles such as shampoo or ketchup bottles- throw caps away
  • • Jugs such as juice or laundry detergent jugs- throw caps away
  • • Round tubs such as yogurt and butter tubs- throw lids away
  • • Jars such as peanut butter jars- throw lids away
  • • Bags
  • • Lids and caps
  • • Styrofoam packing materials
