Self-Service Litter Cans
Businesses and community members who want to help keep Seattle clean can request a free self-service litter can for use on the sidewalk in places where SPU does not service litter cans.
SPU provides the cans free of charge to community members and businesses that agree to empty the litter into their own dumpster or other garbage container.
If you are interested in having a self-service litter can in your community, call (206) 615-1700 and leave your name, phone number, and the address where you would like to have the can located.
SPU’s responsibilities:
- • Provide a functioning litter can
- • Replace broken or damaged cans
- • Clean up graffiti on the can
- • Follow up on illegal use of the can
- • Remove the litter can if it is not being serviced correctly
Community responsibilities:
- • Empty the can on a regular basis and dispose of the contents
- • Prevent the can from overflowing onto the sidewalk
- • Contact SPU about any problems concerning the can (broken can, illegal dumping, graffiti, etc.)
