Backyard Service Charge Exemption
If you qualify for the Backyard Service Charge Exemption, you can get backyard collection at curbside rates.
Eligibility
You may qualify if you:
- • Have curbside collection
- • Are unable to take your garbage, yard waste or recycling to the curb or alley where it is collected
- • Have no one living in the home who can assist you
- • Have short- or long-term physical disabilities OR
- • Have mental disabilities OR
- • Have health problems (medical verification may be required)
- • AND the topography or landscaping in your yard is challenging

How it works
If you qualify, an SPU Field Representative will place stickers on non-qualified garbage, recycling and yard waste cans set at the curb to notify your collectors that there is a backyard exempt can to pick up. If there are other residents in your building, they must take their cans to the curb or alley.
