Windermere Basin
The waters along Magnuson Park in northeast Seattle will benefit from the Windermere Basin project.
Project Description
The Windermere Sewage Overflow Prevention Project will improve water quality by reducing the number and volume of sewer overflows into Lake Washington.
The project will include:
Near Magnuson Park on the south side of NE 65th Street:
- A 2.05 million gallon (MG) storage tank
- A facility vault with mechanical and electrical equipment
In NE 65th Street and Sand Point Way NE:
- A 2,250-foot-long gravity sewer and parallel forcemain
- Motor-operated gates to control the flow of wastewater into the tank
During a storm, flow will be diverted to the storage tank through the 2,250-foot-long gravity sewer. After a storm has passed, the wastewater stored in the tank will typically be emptied within 24 hours and gradually pumped back to the sewer system.
Project Schedule
SPU hired a General Contractor/Construction Manager (GC/CM) in March 2011 to conduct value engineering, constructability reviews and to assist with pre-construction in order to facilitate an early start to construction in 2012.
Construction is scheduled to begin in summer of 2012 and be completed at the end of 2014.
Project Documents
The City of Seattle issued a State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Determination of Non-significance (DNS) for the Windermere Basin CSO Reduction Project on August 16, 2010. A SEPA Environmental Checklist and Engineering Report were submitted to the Washington State Department of Ecology on August 4, 2010.
