Water Revenues
Water revenues pay the following costs:
- • 38% for water quality and supply. This revenue includes capital and operating costs of the Cedar and Tolt River watersheds and dams, and the water purification facilities.
- • 28% for infrastructure and maintenance. This revenue includes capital and operating cost of the large transmission pipes that bring water to Seattle and the thousands of miles of pipes that deliver water to each home and building. This revenue also goes toward maintaining and refurbishing reservoirs, water towers and pump stations.
- • 12% for services, billing and emergency response. This revenue includes planning and preparations for emergencies such as earthquakes and landslides, meter reading, billing and customer service.
- • 11% for taxes. This revenue includes all applicable state and local business taxes.
- • 5% for administration. This revenue includes all general overhead such as human resources, safety, finance and administration.
- • 4% for environmental investments. This revenue includes water conservation programs and all federally mandated Endangered Species Act requirements for endangered salmon. This revenue also involves implementation of the Habitat Conservation Plan for the 95,000 acre Cedar River Watershed Ecological Reserve.
- • 2% for the Revenue Stabilization Fund. This fund was created following the 2001 drought to help maintain financial protection against unforeseen and extraordinary weather events.
