How to recycle

Paper Plates or Cups

In recycling – no rinsing needed

  • Paper cups with a small amount of liquid
  • Clean paper plates

In food and yard waste

  • Paper plates or cups labeled as “Compostable”
  • Uncoated (not shiny) paper plates (such as Chinet brand)

In garbage

  • Dirty plates and cups with a shiny coating
  • Styrofoam plates and cups

Did you know?

The shiny coating on paper plates and cups is usually plastic. Scrape the coating with your fingernail or a knife. If wax collects under your fingernail, the coating is wax. Wax-coated cups and plates can go in your food waste bin.

Decrease waste: Choose reusable items or donate to thrift stores.
