Queen Anne Water System Improvements
The Queen Anne Water System Improvements Project was a response to two issues. First, SPU completed a seismic evaluation and determined that the two previous standpipes were at a high risk of failure. Second, some Queen Anne residents were experiencing problems with their water pressure. As a result, SPU initiated the Queen Anne Water System Improvements Project.
The Queen Anne Water System Improvements Project consisted of:
- Replacing two aging and deteriorating Queen Anne standpipes with a new two million gallon water tank at Warren Ave. N. and Lee Street
- Installing a new underground water pump station at 1st Ave. N. and Lee Street and over 14,000 feet of new water mains
The project cost was about $15 million. SPU started construction in early 2007 and completed the work in the fall of 2008.
Benefits of the Queen Anne Water System Improvements Project
- Improved seismic reliability
- Improved water pressure to approximately 600 Queen Anne households
- Increased water reliability to approximately 30,000 Queen Anne residents
- Increased water storage for fire protection
- Improved landscaping near the new water tank and pump station
