Recycling Processing Request for Proposals

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is requesting proposals for Recycling Processing Services to start April 1, 2016. The Request for Proposal pertains to processing Seattle’s approximately 90,000 tons per year of recyclables collected from apartments, residents and small businesses. The processing services do not include recyclables collected from businesses by independent open market haulers.

  • Draft RFP Posted - September 30, 2014
  • Final RFP Posted - October 24, 2014
    • Proposer’s Conference - November 4 (11:30 am in room 4050 floor of Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA)
    • Final Proposer Questions Due - December 5
    • Proposals Due - January 2, 2015 (2 pm)
  • Selection and Negotiations
    • Presentations by Proposers (City’s option) - February 12
    • Final Contract - April 14
    • Service Begins - April 1, 2016

Long Haul Disposal Contract

Seattle contracts with Washington Waste Systems for the transportation and disposal of the City's solid waste. The waste is transported by rail to the Columbia Ridge Landfill and Recycling Center in Gilliam County, Oregon.
