Project updates

December 7, 2015

Construction on the two sewer improvement projects is now complete and both combined sewer overflow (CSO) sites will be fully operational by the end of the year.

Now that construction is complete, you may notice a few remaining activities in the area:

  • A permanent public art piece commissioned through the City of Seattle’s Percent-for-Art program will be installed in 2016.
  • Ongoing equipment testing at both sites and the diversion structure behind the Village West Apartments building.

Thank you for your patience during construction.

September 21, 2015

Throughout the fall, work wrapped up as we put the finishing touches on the two sewer improvement projects. Crews were expected to finish construction in October, with both sites operational by the end of 2015. Additional wrap-up activities included:

  • Landscaping at both sites through fall 2015
  • Installation of permanent public art at CSO 3
  • Ongoing equipment testing at both sites

August 4, 2015

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is continuing sewer improvements near Delridge Way SW and SW Orchard Street. Work hours are 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Between Thursday, August 6 and Tuesday, August 11, SPU crews will grind, pave, and stripe SW Orchard Street. This work will require the closure of the westbound lane on SW Orchard Street (east of Delridge Way SW). The westbound lane will be opened to traffic during non-work hours. During the closure, all westbound traffic will be diverted to the eastbound lane with the assistance of a traffic flagger.

June 26, 2015

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) crews are on-schedule to complete project work by October 2015. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended work hours may be required at times. We will notify affected residents ahead of schedule changes.

Upcoming work on CSO 2 includes the following activities:

  • Lane restrictions on SW Orchard Street will remain in place through the end of July.

Crews have completed installation of the diversion structure for CSO 3 and are working to restore the site. Upcoming activities will include:

  • Leveling the site
  • Installing motors and valves inside the diversion structure
  • Installing a roadside cabinet to house communication and controls equipment
  • Installing posts and boulders to prevent non-City vehicles from using the access road
  • Installing reinforced grass grid stabilizers (in place of pavement) and curbs along the access road
  • Replanting grass and trees in the disturbed area (fall 2015)

Crews are also finishing up work at the CSO structure site north of SW Barton Pl. Installation of the art piece adjacent to the CSO 3 facility is scheduled to begin late summer 2015, and landscaping at this location will continue through late fall 2015.

February 27, 2015

Work began in early February and is anticipated to be complete in September. The majority of traffic impacts will occur in the coming two months. Our on-site crews are monitoring traffic in the area, especially during start and end times for Sanislo Elementary. We will also be installing an electronic reader board sign near Dumar Way SW and SW Austin Street to alert drivers to the construction ahead.

Please see our updated traffic advisory (pdf) for anticipated construction-related traffic impacts.

February 19, 2015

Construction is now underway at both storage tanks for the Delridge sewer system improvement project. Most work will be on SPU property, although some work will occur in the right-of-way. During construction, residents may experience minor traffic disruptions and construction noise during regular work hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
