Explore the programs we offer for you to learn about the environment and get involved. We partner with schools to promote green practices.

Our most popular education programs exist at the Seattle Public Utilities Cedar River Watershed Education Center, which offers free 4th and 5th grade naturalist-led watershed field trips to public and private schools in the spring and fall. For younger or older students, we offer group visits. Email us for more information. You can also explore our recreation area and trails.

There are many video and text-based resources that teachers can use to help students understand our drinking water system, how to use water wisely, the history of the watersheds, and more.

School Recycling & Waste Reduction

Seattle Public Utilities' (SPU's) solid waste services offer several opportunities for public and private schools to learn about garbage, recycling, and compost in Seattle. Learn about on-site training and presentations from SPU's partners or sign up for tours at a local transfer station or other green facilities.

Youth Stormwater Education

SPU's Drainage and Wastewater offers multiple ways for students and teachers to learn about the impacts of stormwater runoff on their local watersheds. Salmon in the Schools and the Urban Stormwater Program use hands-on, experiential education to help students connect their classroom learning to natural phenomena they experience in their own neighborhoods.

Water Conservation Education Program

The Saving Water Partnership (SWP), a collaboration of local water utilities, offers free programming to your students through a collaboration with Nature Vision. These 45 minute to one-hour programs the Next Generation Science Standards, WA State Science Standards, and STEM education.

Trees for Seattle Ambassadors

The Tree Ambassador project trains Seattle residents to be local leaders in urban forest stewardship. You can make a positive difference within Seattle's urban forest by:

• Meeting fellow tree lovers and becoming a valued part of Seattle's urban forestry network.
• Getting trained to lead projects you are passionate about.
• Attending free workshops on subjects like tree identification, pruning, and tree biology.
