Bicycle Safety Program
Indicates where older drains have been identified and replaced. View map (pdf).
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is working closely with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to replace older storm drain covers in an effort to improve roadway conditions for bicycling throughout the City.
What SPU is doing
SPU is spending $60,000 per year on its program to upgrade old storm drain coverings. See new and old drain style (pdf). There are over 80,000 storm drains throughout the City and SPU is methodically identifying and replacing older drains that no longer meet current City specifications. SPU has prioritized its efforts along designated bicycling routes.
