School Programs
How do I sign up for a School Program?
All 2008 School Programs are free. Sign-ups for the Watershed and Learning Lab programs are first-called, first-served and are taken at 8:00 AM on the first Monday of January for Spring Field Trips and the first Monday of May for Fall Field Trips. All programs are first-contacted, first-served
Reservations for the “Water is Magic Exhibits” are taken year round. Call early as space is limited! For information and reservations, contact us at our program reservation line at (206) 233-1515, or email us at CRWprograms@seattle.gov.
We currently offer three options for our school programs:
Option 1: Watershed Program- Seeing the Source
Field trips into the heart of the Cedar River Watershed are available to 4th and 5th grade classes. For 3.5 hours, Naturalist-led, hands-on activities encourage understanding of water cycles, watersheds, water quality, erosion, cultural history, riparian areas and wildlife. Students see the source of their drinking water, and discover the importance of protecting it and conserving it for fish and people.
- • Teachers must provide commercially licensed school buses or vans. (Bus subsidies are available for Seattle Public Schools).
- • One class per program; 1-5 adult to child ratio.
- • Available to two classes, per school, per season.
- • Programs offered:
- Spring: Mid-March to mid-June
- Fall: Mid-September to mid-November.

Option 2: Learning Lab Program- Connecting Land and Water
Field trips to the Learning Labs are available to 4th – 5th grade classes. For 3.5 hours, students participate in Naturalist-led hands-on activities that help students understand the connections between land and water. Students explore the Rattlesnake Lake basin, and use water test kits and high quality microscopes to closely examine their natural surroundings. Students also explore the Water is Magic exhibits and travel through the water cycle, listen to stories of the past and present and investigate the source of their drinking water.
- • Transportation may be by bus or by parent drivers.
- • One class per program; 1-5 adult to child ratio.
- • Available to two classes, per school, per season.
- • Programs offered:
- Spring: Mid-March to mid-June
- Fall: Mid-September to mid-December (weather permitting)

Option 3: Education Center Visit- “Water is Magic” Exhibits
Field trips to the Cedar River Watershed Education Center “Water is Magic” exhibits are available to any class or organized group. This 1 hour flexible self-led immersion explores water’s many magic properties. Participants will travel through the water cycle, listen to the stories of past and present and investigate their drinking water and the importance of protecting its mountain watershed source.
- • Transportation – any option.
- • One class per 1 hour program; 1-5 adult to child ratio.
- • Reservations required for groups of 14 or more.
- • Offered: Year-round
