Cedar River Watershed
The Cedar River Municipal Watershed is carefully managed to supply clean drinking water to 1.4 million people in the greater Seattle area. The watershed covers 90,638 acres and is owned by the City of Seattle. Come explore and learn about this remarkable rain-soaked landscape by visiting the Cedar River Watershed Education Center or attending a tour.
Watershed Biodiversity
The Cedar River Watershed is host to a rich biological diversity of plants, animals, and habitats. Learn more about the watershed's biodiversity and how it is being protected and restored by the City under its Habitat Conservation Plan.
Watershed activities and additional information
- • This summer, join a Watershed Naturalist for a unique Discovery Tour (PDF) of the Cedar River Municipal Watershed, the source of 70% of the Seattle area’s drinking water. This two and half hour interpretive journey by bus and by foot into the 91,000-acre protected watershed (which is closed to unauthorized public access) is an unparalleled opportunity to experience this special place.
- • Fall 2009 school program (PDF) registration began 8:00 a.m., Monday, May 5. For availability information call our Watershed Program Information line at (206) 233-1515 to discuss Fall dates and programs. Be advised 2009 Fall programs are filling up so call soon as space is limited.
