Water Quality Planning and Engineering
Regulations and special departmental projects require a coordinated planning effort among SPU divisions and outside agencies to ensure ongoing compliance with Federal and State drinking water standards.
Seattle Public Utilities' water quality engineers provide expertise in the management, design, and implementation of projects effecting water quality.
Staying current with regulations
Planning and engineering staff keep abreast of current and future regulatory requirements, prepare associated documentation, submit monitoring data, and/or notify appropriate parties within Seattle Public Utilities of the requirements. Staff also provides comments to the regulating agencies when regulatory changes are proposed.
Other water quality agencies
Water quality agencies that Seattle Public Utilities works with include the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA), and the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA).
