Amount of milfoil removed annually from Walsh Lake
In 2005 we discovered milfoil in Walsh Lake, a small lake near the western border of the municipal watershed. Since then divers have been hand-pulling all the milfoil from the lake each year. Our goal is to completely eradicate this invasive weed from Walsh Lake, which is the only known site infested with milfoil in the municipal watershed. Beavers move fragments of the weed around the lake, making eradication more difficult. In 2008 we discovered a new population of milfoil that they had moved to a location close to their lodge. Once we have zero detections of milfoil, we will continue to periodically monitor the lake to ensure that if it is re-infested we can treat it quickly, before the population has a chance to grow.
