Bull Trout Distribution
Bull trout distribution surveys are conducted along the Cedar River.
We conduct periodic qualitative surveys of fish-accessible stream reaches to document bull trout distribution and habitat use in tributary streams within the Chester Morse Lake basin. As fish passage barriers are removed and access to habitat restored, surveys are conducted to assess bull trout presence and timing of recolonization of this newly accessible habitat.
Although other bull trout populations are known to extensively utilize the upper reaches of their watersheds, there appears to be little use of the upper reaches of the Cedar River by bull trout. More recent electro-fishing surveys have been focused in these upper reaches so as to more fully understand the ecology of bull trout in the less densely utilized reaches of the stream network.
