Habitat Protection & Restoration for All Species
Nearly all land management activities in upland and floodplain areas affect stream channel structure, substrate, temperature and other important aspects of fish habitat.
Downstream Habitat Protection and Restoration

As part of the ecosystem-based approach of the Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP), downstream habitat restoration activities are included to provide more natural stream channel conditions downstream of Landsburg and in the Walsh Lake system. Protection and restoration of aquatic and riparian habitat in the lowlands of the Lake Washington basin below the Landsburg dam constitutes a critical element in regional salmonid recovery efforts. Funding for protection and restoration efforts directed toward all species of anadromous fish found in the Cedar River will be provided from both the flows and fish components of the HCP. Efforts will focus on protecting the best remaining habitat primarily through land acquisition and preservation.
Walsh Lake Restoration
In addition to downstream habitat activities in the mainstem of the Cedar River described above, the flows component of the HCP provides additional funding for restoration in the Walsh Lake system. Walsh Lake is within the municipal watershed boundaries, but drains into the Cedar River below Landsburg, and thus is included in the downstream habitat program. The Walsh Lake system has been established as a high priority for restoration, and habitat restoration funding will be provided to benefit several native fish species.
