Community Outreach

Listed below are the meetings attended by SPU to provide updates on the solid waste facilities. Additional meetings will be held in the future and will be open to the public.

November 11, 2008 – South Park Neighborhood Association: An update was provided on the reconstruction of the South Transfer Station and recycling facilities.

September 17, 2008 – Solid Waste Advisory Committee: SPU provided an update on the appeal of the State Environmental Policy Act decision for the North Transfer Station, the determination by the Landmarks Preservation Board that the transfer stations do not qualify for historic landmark status, a summary of Statement of Qualifications received from design-build project teams, and a summary of economic evaluations on self-haul construction and demolition waste recovery and commercial food waste recovery.

July 22, 2008 – Public meeting in South Park: SPU provided information on the proposed reconstruction of the South Recycling and Disposal Station.

June 12, 2008 – South Station Stakeholder Meeting: Fourth meeting of the south stakeholder group.

May 21, 2008 – Solid Waste Advisory Committee: SPU requested input on the proposed street vacations for the expansion of the North and South transfer stations.

March 25, 2008 – Public meeting in South Park to obtain input on the design of the new solid waste transfer stations

March 19, 2008 – Solid Waste Advisory Committee: SPU provided information about the Environmental Checklist for the Re-Construction of the North Recycling and Disposal Station

March 18, 2008 – North Station Stakeholder Meeting: First meeting of the north stakeholder group to work on design goals for the North Station.

March 17, 2008 – South Station Stakeholder Meeting: Third meeting of the south stakeholder group.

February 20, 2008 – Solid Waste Advisory Committee: SPU provided information about the Determination of Non Significance and Environmental Checklist for the Re-Construction of the South Recycling and Disposal Station

January 23, 2008 – South Station Stakeholder Meeting: Second meeting of the south stakeholder group.

January 16, 2008 – North Station Stakeholder Meeting: First meeting of the north stakeholder group to work on design goals for the North Station.

December 4, 2007 – South Station Stakeholder Meeting: First meeting of the stakeholder group to work on design goals for the South Station.

November 15, 2007 – South Park Action Agenda Town Hall Meeting: Additional information about the proposed projects was presented in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

November 13, 2007 – South Park Neighborhood Association: SPU provided an update on plans to rebuild the South Recycling and Disposal Station.

November 5, 2007 – Lake Union District Council: SPU provided an update of plans to rebuild the North Transfer Station and recycling facilities.

October 24, 2007 – Greater Duwamish District Council: SPU provided an update on plans to acquire about 9 additional acres for the South station and outlined facility improvement plans.

October 22, 2007 – Fremont Neighborhood Council: SPU provided an udate on plans to rebuild the North Transfer Station and other facilities.

October 4, 2007 – Design Commission Meeting: The Commission was updated on the plans to rebuild the North and South Transfer Stations with the capability to load and store intermodal shipping containers.

October 3, 2007 – Wallingford Community Council Meeting: SPU provided an update on plans to rebuild the North Transfer Station.

September 19, 2007 – Solid Waste Advisory Committee: SPU provided an update on facility plans and requested input on future facilities.

August 15, 2007 – Solid Waste Advisory Committee: SPU notified the committee of the City Council’s decision to postpone indefinitely the intermodal facility.

June 20, 2007 – Solid Waste Advisory Committee: SPU notified the committee that the City Council was nearing a decision on the solid waste facilities and was accepting comments.

May 29, 2007 – El Centro de Información Hispano: SPU provided information about facility plans in English and Spanish.

May 3, 2007 – Seattle Design Commission: SPU provided information about project delays due to City Council review of the solid waste facilities plan.

April 11, 2007 – South Park Neighborhood Association: SPU provided the community with an update on plans to acquire the 9 acre “bus yard” adjacent to the existing station in order to expand recycling facilities and construct other facility improvements.
