Organics Processing - 2012 Request for Proposals (RFP)
The City of Seattle is requesting proposals in 2012 for processing organic materials produced by City residential, commercial and self-haul customers. Proposals will be accepted for processing all or a portion of the City’s approximately 90,000 tons of yard debris, food scraps, food-soiled paper, compostable bags and packaging collected by the City’s residential and commercial contract services as well as from self-haul customers at City transfer stations. The City may award one or multiple processing contracts. New processing services would begin in 2014 or 2015.

Seattle contracts with CleanScapes, Inc. and Waste Management of Washington, Inc. for garbage, recycling, food and yard waste collection services. The collection contracts cover all residential and commercial customers by area:

Long Haul Disposal Contract
Seattle contracts with Washington Waste Systems for the transportation and disposal of the city's solid waste. The waste is transported by rail to the Columbia Ridge Landfill and Recycling Center in Gilliam County, Oregon.
