Description:
You can't help but notice the golden glow of this tree in the landscape. The needles emerge a vivid yellow that softens to gold as the season progresses. The dense, pyramidal form and golden foliage would work in endless plant combinations in the landscape.

Where to Plant:
Excellent yard tree. Plant in groups for screening. 

Leaves:
Short bright yellow needles on the outside fade to gold as the season progresses. Good contrast to the darker needles in the canopy interior. 

Fruit:
Red pollen bearing cones provide great contrast to yellow foliage. Seed bearing cones are purple maturing to brown.

Preferred Site Conditions:
Morning sun, afternoon shade. Prefers moist well drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.

Potential Problems:
No serious insect or disease problems. Protect from hot, late day sun.

Minimum Planting Distances:

  • 15 feet from house or building
  • 3 ½ feet back from the face of the curb
  • 5 feet from underground utility lines
  • 10 feet from power poles
  • 7 ½ feet from driveways (10 feet recommended)
  • 20 feet from street lights and other existing trees
  • 30 feet from street intersections
