West Seattle Bridge Corridor Whitepaper

Last Updated: October 11, 2016

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) prepared two documents that describe transportation conditions in the West Seattle Bridge Corridor, one in 2015, and the second in 2016. SDOT is providing these reports online for the benefit of persons interested in the West Seattle Bridge Corridor.

Background

2015
The crossing over the Duwamish River that connects West Seattle neighborhoods, the Duwamish Industrial Area and Port of Seattle terminals to downtown Seattle and the overall regional transportation network has long been one of the Citys busiest corridors. In 2015 under a directive from Mayor Ed Murray, at the request of former Seattle Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, the SDOT compiled an inventory of recommended projects and strategies from an array of plans into a single point of reference. The title for this document is the West Seattle Bridge / Duwamish Waterway Corridor Whitepaper and Priority Investment List

2016
In the following year, the Seattle City Council forwarded their 2016 Seattle City Council Statement of Legislative Intent that requested the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to prepare a written progress report on the implementation of initiatives described in the 2015 West Seattle Bridge / Duwamish Waterway Corridor Whitepaper and Priority Investment List. The progress report was presented on May 27, 2016, and is referenced below.

SDOT has identified multiple projects in these two documents. The majority of these have been programmed and many are underway. For further information on a specific project, please refer to the index directory in the SDOT webpage to obtain more information or to find a contact who may provide more information on the individual project.
