Transportation Strategic Plan The Transportation Strategic Plan (TSP) outlines the specific strategies, projects, and programs that implement broader citywide goals and policies for transportation in our city. Since 1998, SDOT has used the TSP to guide its work. The 2005 TSP Update followed the Comprehensive Plan 10-Year Update that occurred in 2004. Next Generation of the TSP is in the Works! Transportation is always moving, both literally and figuratively. To operate a successful and complex transportation system, SDOT must be thinking both day-to-day and long-range. The TSP helps us do just that. It guides everyday decision-making and sets new directions for the future. We’re in the midst of shifting focus from an auto-oriented approach to one that makes walking, biking, and taking transit easier. Increasing travel choices is good for people – it generally saves money, time, and frustration, and often gets us more physically active. Getting more people walking, biking, and taking transit means fewer vehicle emissions and cleaner air. And with fewer people driving solo, it means transit and freight can get around more efficiently. We are also putting more emphasis on understanding the needs of those who, in the past, have not been heavily involved in working with us—the poor, refugees and new immigrants, the elderly, young people, and those with disabilities. Everyone is entitled to high-quality transportation services and the transportation system must pay special attention to those Seattle residents who face special obstacles of mobility or language. As the City drafts the 2012 Comprehensive Plan Update, SDOT will work to ensure the TSP reflects this planning effort. SDOT will coordinate with the Department of Planning and Development on public outreach and engagement. We’ll post updates to this website as outreach events and other bits of information are finalized. Contacts: Allison Schwartz
