The South Lake Union Streetcar: Latest Construction Notice

Between Monday, March 19th and Tuesday, April 3rd the Seattle Streetcar contractor, Stacy & Witbeck, will install track and pave the intersection of Fairview Avenue North and Harrison Street. Work will take place 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. between Monday, March 19th and Tuesday, April 3rd. If necessary, to complete the job by April 3rd, crews will work during the weekend and as late as 10:30 p.m..

Week of March 19th

• Traffic on Fairview Avenue North will be channeled to one north and south bound lane near the Fairview/Harrison intersection.

• Harrison Street will be closed at Fairview Avenue North. No turns will be permitted.

Week of March 26th

• During non-peak hours traffic will be channeled to one north and south bound lane near the Fairview/Harrison intersection.

• Two south bound lanes will be maintained during the morning rush-hour commute (7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m..

• Two north bound lanes will be maintained during the afternoon rush-hour commute (4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

• Harrison Street between Fairview Avenue North and Boren Street one-way only (westbound).

• Harrison Street between Fairview Avenue North and Minor Street closed to thru traffic, local access only.

Access to all businesses will be maintained and detour routes will be provided. Uniformed Seattle police officers will be there to direct traffic & freight.

Construction work will close Virginia Street between 4th and Westlake Avenues

The City of Seattle and its contractor will perform work along Virginia Street, to install an electrical ductbank for Seattle City Light’s (SCL) Downtown Network.

November 2nd to November 22nd

During this time Virginia Street, between 4th and Westlake Avenues, will be limited to transit and local access only.

The traffic control plan will include:

  • Local access and transit only permitted on Virginia Street, between 4th and 6th Avenues.
  • Transit only on Virginia Street, between 6th and Westlake Avenues.
  • 4th, 5th, 6th and Westlake Avenues will remain open during construction.

    DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

    4th & Virginia Detour Route to I-5

    • Continue on 4th Ave
    • Take RIGHT onto Blanchard Street
    • Take RIGHT on 7th Avenue
    • Take LEFT onto Virginia Street
    • Turn onto Fairview Avenue N
    • Follow signs to I-5
    5th & Virginia Detour Route to I-5
    • Continue on 5th Ave
    • Take LEFT on Pike Street
    • Follow Signs to I-5

    Weekend Closure of the Intersection of Fairview Avenue North and Valley Street

    (Seattle) - The City of Seattle and its contractor will be installing streetcar rail in the intersection of Fairview Avenue North and Valley Street from 5 a.m. Saturday, October 7th until 5 a.m. Monday, October 9th.

    During this time the intersection of Fairview Avenue North and Valley Street will be closed to traffic.

    The traffic control plan will include lane restrictions:

    • All traffic from the Mercer Exit from I-5 will be diverted southbound onto Fairview Avenue North.

    • Traffic northbound on Fairview Ave N will not be able to turn westbound onto Valley Street.

    • Traffic eastbound on Valley Street will not be able to turn southbound onto Fairview Ave North.

    Traffic detours will be provided to maintain safety and lessen the impact on businesses and commuters in the area. Uniformed Seattle Police Department officers will be on-site to direct traffic.

    Drivers should watch for important traffic information on the overhead freeway signs and highway advisory radio. Check the traffic Web site before you leave to see congestion levels leading into the downtown area. Drivers should expect traffic delays into the downtown and South Lake Union areas and are encouraged to take alternate routes.

    Local transit service, which includes King County Metro Transit bus routes 70, 71, 72, 73 & 83 will be temporarily impacted. Rider alerts will be posted at affected bus stops.     Weekend closures of the Fairview Avenue North and Valley intersection will occur
    • Saturday, September 30th & Sunday, October 1st
    • October 6th thru Sunday, October 8th

    Please note that area transit service, which includes METRO bus routes 70, 71, 72, 73 & 83, will be affected. To learn more about any changes to local transit service (reroutes or temporary bus stops) call 206-553-3000 (TTY users 206-684-1739). In advance of construction, rider alerts will also be posted at affected bus stops.

    All area hotels, restaurants and other businesses will be accessible and open for business. Alternative route maybe necessary.
