S. Henderson Street Improvements Project
Revised March 30, 2007
Due to weather conditions during the Winter and early Spring there has been a "work suspension" until early May 2007.
Work to Start on S. Henderson Street Improvements this Week
Week of October 4, 2006
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will begin making improvements on South Henderson Street that will provide a pedestrian connection from Rainier Avenue S. to the planned Sound Transit Link Light Rail station at M. L. King, Jr. Way S. The work will consist of sidewalk and street landscape improvements together with a new curb and gutter along the north side of S. Henderson Street from Renton Avenue S. through Rainier Ave S. and ending at Seward Park Avenue S. There will be some sidewalk and street landscape improvements along the south side of S. Henderson Street, mostly in the vicinity of Rainier Avenue S. The project will also provide increased pedestrian lighting on both sides of the street as well as street lighting to increase safety for pedestrians.
Street improvements will focus on pedestrian safety and comfort.
- Planting strips and street trees between the sidewalk and the roadway will be added by relocating the curb and gutter.
- The new curb line will include curb bulbs at key pedestrian crossings.
- Sidewalk improvements will include filling in missing sections of exiting sidewalk, repair of cracked panels, and widening the existing sidewalk.
- Pedestrian lighting will be installed to further increase safety.
- The intersection at Rainier Ave S will be resurfaced.
- Other parts of the roadway will be partially resurfaced with several areas requiring concrete base and panel repairs before the new pavement is installed.
SDOT will distribute notices with updated information as needed during the project.
